Sandy Alcantara and Paul Skenes Headline Top Fantasy Baseball Performers From April 1

If you missed what happened in Wednesday’s 15-game slate in MLB, here’s a quick recap with everything you need to know from a fantasy perspective.

Sandy Alcantara Pitches First Complete Game of 2026 MLB Season

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Wednesday’s slate was dominated by impressive pitching performances, but no one stood up more than Sandy Alcantara. The Miami Marlins right-hander has been one of the best pitchers in the majors over the first week of the 2026 regular season, and he delivered an impressive outing against the Chicago White Sox after going the distance in a 10-0 win for Miami.

Alcantara allowed just three hits and struck out seven while needing just 93 pitches to record 27 outs. This was Alcantara’s second complete game with fewer than 100 pitches, otherwise known as a Maddux, in his career, as well as his fifth career shutout.

Paul Skenes Bounces Back from Ugly Opening Day Start

Things couldn’t have gone worse for Paul Skenes on Opening Day, as he allowed five runs on four hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning against the New York Mets. However, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner bounced back quickly and tossed five strong innings while carrying the Pittsburgh Pirates to a win over the Cincinnati Reds.

Skenes allowed just one run on three hits, striking out five and walking two. He tossed 77 pitches (51 strikes) and lowered his season ERA from 67.50 to 9.53. That’s still far from ideal, but at some point this season, his ERA without the Opening Day start will be a true reflection of what he can do as a pitcher.

With the way he bounced back after the shortest outing of his career, it’s safe to say there’s nothing wrong with Skenes moving forward.

Who Were the Top-Scoring Fantasy Players on Wednesday, April 1?

In terms of pitchers, Alcantara was the highest-scoring player in fantasy on April 1 after tossing a complete game. However, several other players stood out as well.

There’s Gavin Williams, who struck out 10 and allowed just two hits and three walks through seven scoreless innings for the Cleveland Guardians in a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kevin Gausman and Matthew Boyd also struck out 10, although Boyd finished just one out away from recording a quality start.

Chris Sale pitched six innings of one-run ball for the Atlanta Braves against the Athletics, and Cam Schlittler tossed 6.1 scoreless innings as the New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners by a 5-3 score.

From a hitting perspective, Kyle Isbel and Josh Bell stood out in the Kansas City Royals’ 13-9 win over the Minnesota Twins. Isbel had four hits, a home run, two RBI, and three runs scored for Kansas City, while Bell delivered a three-run shot, walked twice, and scored three total runs for Minnesota. That was Bell’s first homer with the Twins.

Liam Hicks and Otto Lopez made their presence felt for the Marlins in the shutout win over the White Sox. Both players went yard, but Hicks had three hits, four RBI, and two runs scored in total. Meanwhile, Lopez had two hits, a solo shot, a walk, and three total runs scored.
