Diamondbacks Sluggers Lead 2 Saturday MLB Predictions Targeting Marquez, Senga

All 30 teams are in action to kickoff the weekend and our MLB predictions highlight some of the most advantageous spots. The nice part about this slate is that there are reasonable opportunities to fully lean into these angles with alternate lines and/or DFS overloads.

It’s a great day to have a great day.

MLB Predictions for Saturday, April 25

Padres vs. Diamondbacks: Diamondbacks to score 8+ runs

German Marquez finally escaped calling Coors Field home and the results have been spotty.

In four starts, he has two productive ones and two duds, but the fact that his xERA sits at 5.49 undercuts the idea of his 3.86 ERA being viable. Opponents have had no trouble elevating the ball against the veteran righty (22.9-degree average launch angle) and they certainly aren’t sacrificing quality of contact to get the ball in the air (12.1% barrel rate).

Enter a top-10 offense in terms of ISO this season that was third in that regard a season ago. We’ve seen them flash offensive upside (7+ runs in 24% of their games) and in hitter-friendly Mexico City tonight, they are in a great position to showcase that talent.

If I am isolating this offense, Ketel Marte has my interest. The switch-hitter has seen all four of his homers this season come from the left side and is pacing for a fourth straight season with an increase in his SLG against righties.

He gives this offense plenty of pop at the top and should have this team in position to score early and often in this showcase contest.

Rockies at Mets: Rockies +1.5 and Over 8.5

It’s Kodai Senga Day again, and yes, we’re going back to the well and fade him. Senga is 0-3 with an inflated 8.83 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and 22:10 strikeout-to-walk ratio (K/BB) in 17 1/3 innings over four starts this season. Senga’s recent struggles are concerning as he’s given up 14 runs (13 earned) in 5 2/3 innings over his last two starts, surrendering four home runs and managing a 6:5 strikeout-to-walk ratio (K/BB) in that span.

The Rockies turn to Jose Quintana, who’s also struggling this season. He’s 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA, 7.55 xERA, 7.15 xFIP, 1.85 WHIP and a concerning 4:9 strikeout-to-walk ratio (K/BB) in 13 innings across three starts.

I don’t trust Quintana, but the Senga fade continues. I also like the Over, with both starters allowing traffic and struggling to keep runs off the board.
