Saturday’s MLB slate features 15 games, and it’s a schedule loaded with several aces from a pitching perspective. However, if you’re looking to boost your fantasy baseball lineup off the waiver wire, there are several options worth considering. Here are three streaming candidates for Saturday.
Why Shane McClanahan Is a Top Streaming Option for Saturday’s Fantasy Baseball Slate
There aren’t many pitchers worth streaming ahead of Saturday’s slate. Our original suggestion was Kodai Senga, but the New York Mets’ game against the Colorado Rockies has been postponed due to rain.
Under that scenario, one option that stands out is Shane McClanahan. The four-year veteran doesn’t have the best numbers, as he owns a 5.00 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP in 18 innings across four starts.
However, he has a strong matchup against a Minnesota Twins lineup that ranks in the middle of the pack when it comes to collective OPS at .716 (14th best). Despite the numbers, McClanahan has limited opposing hitters to an excellent .191 average while posting a .229 xwOBA in 11 plate appearances against current Minnesota hitters.
The sample size is small, but it’s significant enough to consider giving him a go as a starting option.
Jake Irvin Is a Wise Streaming Option Against the White Sox
Despite the limited streaming options ahead of Saturday’s slate, one player you could potentially take a look at is Jake Irvin, who will be facing the Chicago White Sox’s lowly lineup at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Irvin doesn’t have a lot of experience against the White Sox lineup. In 21 plate appearances, he’s allowed them to hit .300 with an xwOBA of .369.
That’s far from ideal, but at the same time, Chicago owns the 18th-worst collective OPS in the majors at .708. That mark is even lower at home (.666, sixth worst in the majors).
Take a look at Irvin if you’re short-staffed ahead of Saturday’s slate.
Walbert Ureña Is a Potential Streaming Alternative in Fantasy Baseball this Saturday
Ureña will be making just his second start at the MLB level, but he has earned the chance after delivering an excellent outing in his first start against the San Diego Padres.
The 22-year-old right-hander was summoned from Triple-A Salt Lake last weekend to make his first MLB start and was outstanding against San Diego. He allowed just two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight across six innings.
He was tagged with the loss, but he was facing one of the most potent lineups in the NL.
This time, Ureña will be pitching against a slumping Kansas City Royals lineup that enters Saturday’s slate owning the sixth-worst collective OPS in the majors at .668.
He’ll rely heavily on his defense, but his velocity is good enough. He certainly showed enough in his MLB debut as a starter to be worthy of another shot in the rotation.
