Stealing bases is a bit of a lost art in today’s fantasy baseball. There aren’t many players who can make a living out of being dangerous on the basepaths. However, there are some who are valuable in fantasy solely because of their speed.
There are specialists for stolen bases if you’re willing to wait for one in the draft. But another worthy strategy is to punt steals and decide to target hitters who can deliver consistent value in other categories. The decision is yours at the end of the day. But if you’re looking for a specialist, we have done the research so you don’t have to. These are the three best options if you’re looking to target a theft specialist late in your draft.
Jose Caballero, 2B/3B, New York Yankees
Caballero figures to be a bench option for the Yankees for most of the 2026 season, but he has a clean path toward opening the 2026 regular season in a starting role due to the injury issues of Anthony Volpe (shoulder). Caballero has an ADP below the 200 range, and aside from offering steals, he’s also able to play several positions. Caballero led the majors in steals in 2025 with 49, so he’s probably the best option when it comes to finding a late-round steals specialist.
Chandler Simpson, OF, Tampa Bay Rays
Simpson played in 109 games and logged 414 at-bats for the Rays in the 2025 season, but that was enough for him to end tied for second in the majors in steals with 44. It is worth noting that he was also caught stealing 12 times. Simpson has an ADP of around 170, so he’s a player you could target around the 13th or 14th round in standard 12-team formats. He had a .671 OPS in 2025, but the value he brings on the basepaths is enough to consider him a steals specialist.
Victor Scott, OF, St. Louis Cardinals
Scott is even more of a niche player, as he doesn’t bring much else to the table. In 138 games in the 2025 season, the outfielder hit .216 with a .601 OPS, numbers that are decidedly below average. That said, he stole 34 bases, good for 10th in the majors, and was caught stealing just four times. His success rate of 89.5% was pretty good, and it’s enough to consider him as a reliable fantasy target in late rounds. With an ADP of around 300, he’s nothing more than a steals specialist.
Some other options to consider include Xavier Edwards (Miami Marlins), Lawrence Butler (The Athletics), David Hamilton (Milwaukee Brewers), and Jake Mangum (Pittsburgh Pirates), with all of them racking up 22 or more stolen bases during the 2025 season.
