Corey Seager’s 2025 season unfolded in two distinct phases following early-season offensive struggles for the Texas Rangers. The Rangers dismissed Donnie Ecker, offensive coordinator, in early May. Seager produced a .291/.344/.453 slash line at the time, though he had managed just 4 home runs and 6 extra-base hits.
The change in voice appeared to spark some improvement, as Seager later posted a .265/.381/.497 line under the guidance of Bret Boone, hitting coach, with 17 home runs before his season was cut short by an appendectomy.
The shortened campaign halted what had been a three-year streak of 30-plus home runs, one of the few consistent elements in Seager’s profile. His run and RBI totals have fluctuated with the quality of the Rangers’ supporting cast, and his batting average has shown significant volatility, swinging 82 points over the last four seasons. Even so, his underlying skill set remains intact when he is on the field.
Corey Seager 2026 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Strengths and Weaknesses
Seager’s primary strengths continue to revolve around his advanced hit tool, strong plate discipline, and middle-of-the-order power potential.
When healthy, he consistently produces high-quality contact and remains one of the more dangerous left-handed bats at the shortstop position. His track record of impact production over multiple seasons reinforces his appeal in Fantasy Baseball Points Leagues, where steady extra-base output and run creation carry significant weight.
The concerns are largely tied to durability and year-to-year statistical volatility. Seager has struggled to maintain full-season availability since playing 151 games in his first year with Texas in 2022, and his production categories can swing depending on lineup context and health. Still, he’s remained excellent when available since, producing a collective 152 weighted runs created plus (wRC+) in that span.
Fantasy managers must also account for the possibility that missed time could again interrupt his counting stats ceiling.
Encouragingly, Seager took live batting practice late in the offseason and appears fully healthy entering Spring Training. He finished the year on the injured list following the late-August appendectomy, but he was cleared for baseball activities less than three weeks after the procedure and reportedly experienced a normal offseason.
While Skip Schumaker, manager, has not finalized the 2026 lineup, Seager is widely expected to hit near the top of the order, likely in the second or third spot behind Brandon Nimmo.
From a Fantasy Baseball Points League perspective, Seager remains a high-impact but slightly volatile option. A return to the 30-home-run range over a full season is well within reach, though fluctuations in batting average and counting stats should be expected. His combination of proven production and health-related risk places him firmly in the upper-middle tier of shortstops for draft season.
As far as shortstop hierarchy for Fantasy Baseball Points Leagues, I rank him at Tier 3 under Bobby Witt Jr., Elly De La Cruz, and Gunnar Henderson, among others, and higher than Maikel Garcia, Trevor Story, and Bo Bichette.
