Maikel Garcia had a breakout campaign in fantasy baseball in 2025, showing his durability once again while finally putting all his tools together. He was coming off a 2024 campaign in which he hit .231 with a .613 OPS, but he bested those numbers considerably in 2025 while playing in a career-high 160 games.
Garcia posted career-best marks in average (.286), on-base percentage (.351), slugging (.449), OPS (.800), home runs (16), RBI (74), walks (62), and hits (170).
He also reduced his strikeout numbers considerably with a career-low 84, essentially cutting his strikeout percentage to a strong 12.6% while posting a career-best 9.3% walk rate. He struck out less, got on base more, hit for more power, and remained a threat on the basepaths.
The biggest challenge for Garcia is to show that the 2025 season was not an outlier. Fresh off being named the 2026 World Baseball Classic MVP after leading Venezuela to its first title, the 26-year-old brings immense momentum as a fantasy asset heading into the 2026 baseball season.
Maikel Garcia 2026 Fantasy Baseball Outlook and Projections
Garcia should have plenty of opportunities to get on base since he will hit at the top of the order for the Kansas City Royals. Even though he hit in the cleanup spot in 2025, he is expected to open the 2026 season in the leadoff spot, giving the Royals a dynamic duo at the top of the order with him at No. 1 and Bobby Witt Jr. at No. 2.
His mixture of contact (.286 average and .351 on-base percentage) and speed (23 stolen bases on 32 attempts) makes him an ideal fit for the leadoff role. The fact that the third-base position is depleted in terms of impact talent boosts Garcia’s chances of being a regular fantasy contributor.
He is being selected as an early-to-mid-round pick in most drafts. With an ADP of around 70 to 75, he is a player who could easily fall into your lap in the sixth or seventh round. His value will be exclusively tied to what he does at the plate, although his positional versatility also strengthens his case.
Garcia can play multiple positions in both the infield and outfield, making him an ideal player to move around a lineup. He should be considered in the second tier of third basemen ahead of the 2026 fantasy baseball season.
He is not on the same level as José Ramírez, Jazz Chisholm Jr. (who retains third-base eligibility for now), Manny Machado, or Junior Caminero. However, he should definitely be included in the next tier alongside players such as Austin Riley, Eugenio Suárez, Alex Bregman, and others.
He is an excellent option to consider as a starter at the hot corner. His move up to the leadoff spot could give him even more chances to get on base at a high clip, enhancing his potential to make an impact at the top of the order.
