If you missed any of the action that occurred during Friday’s eight-game slate in the majors, here’s our daily MLB recap with what happened around MLB on March 27.
Why the Yankees Have Yet to Allow a Run This Season
The Yankees opened the 2026 MLB season with a 7-0 win over the Giants on Wednesday, and while the Giants had high expectations Friday by sending Robbie Ray to the mound, the Yankees blanked them once again. A two-run shot from Aaron Judge, who bounced back from his 0-for-5 performance on Opening Night, and a solo homer from Giancarlo Stanton were all the offense the Yankees needed to blank the Giants for a second game in a row.
Judge hit a homer for the fourth time against Ray, and now the Yankees are enjoying a historic start to the season. It’s the first time in franchise history that they’ve opened a season with back-to-back shutouts.
Marlins and Braves Aces Shine in the Final Part of Opening Day
Sandy Alcantara and Chris Sale were two of the aces who had yet to open their season, but both delivered impressive performances Friday while leading their respective teams to victory.
Alcantara provided seven innings of one-run ball in the Marlins’ 2-1 home win over the Colorado Rockies, allowing an unearned run on four hits and two walks while striking out five.
Sale was even better, as he lifted the Braves to a 6-0 win over the Kansas City Royals after tossing six scoreless frames, allowing three hits and walking three while fanning six.
Why Guardians Prospect Chase DeLauter Is Swinging a Hot Bat
DeLauter turned heads on Opening Day after going 3-for-5 with two solo home runs against the Mariners, and he continues to swing a hot bat after going yard again on Friday. During the 5-1 loss, DeLauter provided all the offense the Guardians could muster with a solo shot against George Kirby in the second at-bat of the game.
Three homers in two games is certainly special, but it would be wrong to believe DeLauter can keep this up. First of all, three of his four hits this season have left the yard, and that’s simply unsustainable.
Plus, he’s a prized prospect with just two regular-season MLB games under his belt. His start to life in the big leagues has been historic, but expect him to cool off sooner rather than later.
How the Blue Jays Survived Late Drama on Opening Day
Arguably, the most exciting game of Friday’s slate happened in Toronto, where the Blue Jays, who were lifting the banner of AL champions from the 2025 season, defeated the Athletics on some ninth-inning drama.
The Blue Jays held a 2-1 lead entering the ninth, but a solo homer from Shea Langeliers (who went deep twice in a 3-for-4 game) tied the game with closer Jeff Hoffman on the mound.
The Blue Jays weren’t going to let the game go into extra innings, though. After Justin Sterner recorded two quick outs in the bottom of the ninth, back-to-back hits from Kazuma Okamoto and Ernie Clement gave Toronto runners on second and third with two outs.
Andres Gimenez stepped up to the plate and left the A’s on the field with a single to center field, allowing Toronto to open its 2026 season with a dramatic win.
